Celebrate Education Day with tools so they don’t fool you

World Education Day, celebrated on January 24, seems like a great opportunity to remind ourselves that education is a human right that plays a fundamental role in peace and in the development of individuals and society.

Celebrate Education Day with tools so they don’t fool you

Education is one of the pillars of Maldita.es: we want to contribute our grain of sand through Maldita Educa, our project to help citizens learn to defend themselves against disinformation. To do so, we develop courses, workshops and materials to give you a hand in distinguishing between what is true and what is false.

Tools so they don’t fool you: download them, use them, share them

We want to share with you some tools that we use at Maldita Educa to help make sure they don’t fool you: for you or to share with whoever you think needs them, such as our manual so they don’t fool you. Always keep it handy!

In our day-to-day work we use a lot of tools that help us uncover lies, and in our Verification Toolbox we compile them all so that anyone can become an expert in fact-checking.

We have also created a game to learn in a fun way how to spot lies: download the Maldita.es fortune teller, print it, fold it and play!

On Instagram we also teach you tricks every week to learn how to fact-check, so if you are an instagrammer, on the @malditobulo account you will find lots of Stories with these tips collected together.

Against scientific hoaxes, the Yo, Doctor comics are the best vaccine. We have compiled them so you can print your favourites and share them, give them as gifts... Download them here!

If you prefer live learning, drop by one of the workshops we have coming up in Córdoba, Murcia or Barcelona, where we will be spending a whole week giving 30 workshops in the 10 districts of the city during Mobile Week. At educa.maldita.es you will find all the information about each of them. You can also ask us at [email protected]!

Are you a secondary or higher education teacher? We need your superpowers!

We know a lot about fact-checking, hoaxes and lies, but much less than teachers about how to teach how to fight them. Many teachers have approached us because in their day-to-day work they see how disinformation is present in classrooms but they do not have the tools to teach how to combat it. So we thought: shall we join our superpowers?

We have lots of content to create materials and we know which content goes viral and how to debunk it, but now we need teachers’ help to get it right. On Friday 21 February (from 5 to 8 p.m.) we have organised a group session in Madrid to which all teachers who wish to attend are invited: we will explain the Maldita Educa project, ask about teachers’ needs and exchange ideas in order to offer the most practical materials.

If you are a teacher, save that afternoon: we will send the specific details of the event later. If you are interested in receiving them, sign up here to receive the Maldita Educa newsletter for teachers.

We are reaching more and more places, but there is still a long way to go because fighting disinformation is a hard task and only together can we do it.

We need you, because together it is harder for them to fool us.
