The Madrid Press Association annually recognizes the journalist under the age of 30 who has most distinguished themselves over the past year. In 2019, Clara Jiménez Cruz was selected for this honor. The jury, made up of members of the APM Board of Directors, recognized her work in building a newsroom and launching an innovative project, creating a company and generating employment for journalists.
The 2020 Young Journalist of the Year Award was also announced and presented to Jaime Santirso, El País correspondent in China and Asia and contributor to Cadena SER. The Journalists of the Year awards for 2019 and 2020 went to Carlos Franganillo and Carlos Alsina, respectively. The awards for journalists specializing in Madrid were granted to Fernando Peinado, Laura Galaup, Elena Jiménez, and Manuel Rico. The APM Honorary Award this year was presented to Francisco Giménez Alemán.
In previous years, the Young Journalist of the Year Award has gone to professionals such as Cristina Villanueva, Cristina Ónega, Daniel Campos, and Mar Cabra.
The 2019 and 2020 APM Journalism Awards will be presented jointly in a single ceremony, scheduled to coincide with the feast day of the patron saint of journalists, Saint Francis de Sales, in January 2021. The event will take place at the Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens, located in Madrid’s Retiro Park.
