The Vallecas Refugee Reception Center presents a documentary about coexistence in the neighborhood among migrants, with the collaboration of Maldita.es

This documentary report, which will be screened at the parish of San Ambrosio, located opposite the Refugee Reception Center (CAR), brings together conversations between neighborhood residents who migrated in the 1950s from other Spanish cities and refugees who have passed through the CAR on their way to obtaining asylum in Spain.

In this conversation, we hear the stories of Rosa and Antonio, two residents of the Vallecas neighborhood who migrated with their families from Badajoz and Córdoba respectively; Annick, a refugee from Burkina Faso who arrived in Vallecas at the age of 18 with her mother and sister; Ruth, who has lived in the neighborhood for four years since arriving from Peru, from where she fled and requested asylum in Spain; and Nahed, a woman who has lived as a refugee in Spain for 16 years after fleeing the bombings that devastated Palestine.

Throughout the more than 20 minutes of this documentary, produced by Maldita.es with the support of the Vallecas Refugee Reception Center and the Community Coexistence Board, these five neighbors share experiences of past and present migration, the difficulties of arriving in a new place, and the stigma that follows their streets, a stigma that has persisted over time.

After the screening, a roundtable discussion will take place in which, together with the protagonists, we will talk about coexistence in the neighborhood between migrants from different regions of Spain and from other countries, and about how to combat the stigma surrounding migrants.
