“War on disinformation”, a debate on the government’s role in monitoring it, with the participation of the Director of National Security

Starting at 11:30 a.m. this Friday, November 27, you can watch live a debate on the ministerial order on disinformation approved by the government. The text has sparked major controversy after proposing the creation of a government commission on disinformation, which the opposition has described as a “Ministry of Truth.”

“War on disinformation”, a debate on the government’s role in monitoring it, with the participation of the Director of National Security

We will be joined by the Director of National Security, Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, as well as Eduardo Madina, Virginia P. Alonso, José María Blanco Navarro, Elsa González, Ramón Salaverría, José Manuel Pérez Tornero and Carlos Hernández-Echevarría. The discussion will take place in two roundtables moderated by Alfonso Armada and Antonio Rubio.

At Maldita.es we have already explained why we believe a government should not decide what is true and what is not, and why the fight against disinformation cannot be carried out by bodies that are not independent from the government, but we are looking forward to hearing from the rest of the speakers. We are organizing this debate together with Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the Association of Investigative Journalists (API), and the Platform for Freedom of Information (PDLI).

We look forward to seeing you on Friday at 11:30 a.m. (mainland Spain time). You can follow the live stream at this link and send us all your questions.
