Maldita launches a contact email so older adults can ask questions and verify content, in a LatamChequea project led by Chequeado

Disinformation affects people of all ages. Anyone can share or believe a hoax. For this reason, at Maldita.es we have joined the LatamChequea network, led by Chequeado, to provide a contact channel for older adults who want to verify a video, image, message chain, or any content that reaches their hands or ears.

Maldita launches a contact email so older adults can ask questions and verify content, in a LatamChequea project led by Chequeado

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, at Maldita.es we have debunked more than 1,000 hoaxes, false alerts and pieces of disinformation about the coronavirus. With the arrival of the vaccine, we have also seen the spread of false claims linking it to many supposed side effects.

For this reason, at Maldita.es we are launching the email address [email protected] to provide tools so that older adults can identify false information circulating on social media or reaching them through WhatsApp.

They can also send us the content they receive — whether audio, text, image or video — so that we can fact-check it. Once we receive the message, we will reply with verified information on the topic using official and alternative sources, or, if necessary, we will ask them to wait until we have verified it and will send the result as soon as it is ready.

In addition to using this email address, they can also contact us through our WhatsApp chatbot (+34 644 22 93 19), through which they will also receive a daily summary of fact-checks in text and audio format.

This initiative is part of the LatamChequea alliance to counter disinformation about vaccines, involving 22 organizations and supported by the Google News Initiative.
