Andrés Jiménez, coordinator of Maldito Bulo, will give three workshops during the event in which he will address the reasons why disinformation spreads and the tools fact-checkers have available to fight it.

Tomás Rudich, journalist at Newtral, and Keegan Leech, researcher at Africa Check, will also participate in the meeting. Both are members of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), of which Maldita.es is also a member.

Casa África considers it “absolutely necessary and urgent to help improve communication” on the neighboring continent. This public consortium has worked for decades to strengthen relations between Spanish and African journalists, with the aim of promoting a balanced and stereotype-free view of the continent and also serving as a bridge between Spanish and African media outlets.

In December 2021, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and the Kenya Media Council, it organized the III Journalist Meeting Africa Spain, which took place in Nairobi (Kenya). The CEO and co-founder of Maldita.es, Clara Jiménez Cruz, delivered the workshop “Disinformation: How do ‘the bad guys’ work? Motivations and techniques.”

In addition, during May 2022, Casa África launched a project to raise awareness among secondary school students in the Canary Islands about the importance of identifying disinformation that affects migrants. Clara Jiménez and Laura del Río, coordinator of Maldita Educa, participated in the project through a conference and several workshops with secondary school students.
