Public policies so that you are not fooled: our first quarterly report on disinformation

Each quarter we will prepare a report on the latest trends we are seeing in disinformation and the attempts to combat it. We will share it with the main political parties in Spain and with other interested organizations, but it will always be available on our website. The first edition reviews January, February and March 2021, with numerous pre-election and vaccination-related hoaxes.

Public policies so that you are not fooled: our first quarterly report on disinformation

Maldita.es has published its first quarterly report on disinformation: Public Policies so that you are not fooled. You can download it here and see the main hoax trends that our team has identified in the first quarter of 2021, as well as the latest legislative proposals on disinformation and some of the scientific studies on the phenomenon that have caught our attention.

The report is prepared by our Public Policy and Institutional Development area and is distributed among the main Spanish political parties with parliamentary representation and also to other entities interested in the study of disinformation. However, you will always be able to find it accessible on our website because we believe in transparency and in you being able to know what we tell institutions about what we do.

Some time ago we explained to you why we were contacting political parties to talk about disinformation. This report is another attempt to explain to them what we have learned over these years about how disinformation works and what can be done from institutions to combat it. If you want to know what Maldita.es thinks about this issue, we summarize it in our document Disinformation and legislation: risks and opportunities.

The next quarterly report on disinformation will be published in July.
