Maldita.es becomes a non-profit foundation

Becoming the Fundación Maldita.es contra la desinformación: journalism, education, research and data in new formats has been a long process, much longer than we expected when we launched the crowdfunding #FundaMaldita, but almost two years later we can now say that we are a non-profit foundation.

Maldita.es becomes a non-profit foundation

The support of more than 1,600 malditas and malditos in that crowdfunding was essential to obtain the 30,000 euros needed to make Maldita.es a foundation of civil society. Becoming a foundation makes us stronger against lies and helps us remain independent and go one step further in our transparency.

When we began building Maldita.es we decided that we wanted to become a foundation so that this project would not be owned by anyone but would belong to civil society. While we awaited registration in the registry we have been an association, which will remain active to finish the projects it already has underway but whose ultimate goal is to dissolve.

The association with which we have operated until now will continue running: in recent months, before having the foundation up and running, we were granted as an association some long-term projects (like this one) for which we have to, for a time, combine both organizations.

What do we use your contributions for?

At Maldita.es transparency is fundamental: you have the right to know our structure and to know where the money comes from and how we spend it because Maldita.es belongs to civil society: it is also yours.

At this link we break down where the money that finances our work comes from. One important thing: we do not have advertising and we do not believe in paywalls, because verified and fact-checked information must be accessible to everyone.

Help us keep it that way, become an ambassador, become an ambassador.
